2009 is Jen's third year with the BC Junior A Lacrosse League--and like the players, her time in Jr. A has taught her a lot. Just before the 2007 season she started as a volunteer writer with the league, and last year took on the role of League Reporter and Director of Media Communications.
Jen is a graduate of the Broadcast Journalism Course at BCIT, and decided early on in her schooling she wanted to pursue the sports end of journalism. Her volunteer experiences include helping with the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Burnaby, time with CKNW in Vancouver covering the BC Lions, and most notably a seven week stint in Toronto at The Score TV station helping with various shows at the station.
Since graduation Jen is working a couple of different sports angles. In the lacrosse off-season, she does rinkside reporting for the Powell River Kings of the BCHL when they are on the road in Vancouver, and is also an on-call field producer for the Score helping with the Lions and Canucks.

"It's a no-brainer" says Jen, "sports journalism is definitely where I want to be, and the work I do with the lacrosse league has helped me concentrate on my strengths and weaknesses. Considering I came into this job knowing nothing about the sport, I'm at a point now where I can't believe there was life before lacrosse. My job with Junior A is a great way to start out my career."
Jen encourages BCJALL fans to write in with story ideas, comments, questions, suggestions, or anything else--you can reach her at jenmutas@hotmail.com |
