| Jr. A to WLA Draft |
| February 11, 2009 |
|
Junior A lacrosse is said to be the important three years in which players figure out where the sport fits into their lives, and whether or not to pursue it.
Sunday was the Midget draft for the BCJALL, drafting players up from the minors for their three year stint; and Tuesday was the graduation for the players who did their time in Junior, and got drafted into Senior level. A lacrosse 'circle of life' if you will…
As expected, 2008 Jr. A leading scorer, three star award winner, first all star team member, and league MVP, Alex Gajic was selected first overall by the Langley Thunder.
Three members of the New Westminster Junior Salmonbellies were chosen in the first round; including Jr. captain Curtis Manning, who will stay with the 'Bellies organization. Manning's Jr. teammates Kyle Belton and Alex Turner were chose fourth and fifth respectively and will be headed to Langley with Alex Gajic.
Port Moody native Jarett Davis who finished second in Adanac scoring last season, was picked third overall by the Maple Ridge Burrards.
Jr. Shamrock Cory Conway who is currently playing with the Portland Lumberjax in the NLL, was selected in the sixth spot of the first round by the Coquitlam Adanacs. In seven games with Portland, Conway has racked up twelve goals and nineteen helpers.
2008 Junior Shamrock leading scorer and captain Cayle Ratcliff was chosen in the final spot of the first round, and will be headed up island to the Nanaimo Timbermen.
Port Coquitlam agitators Dayne Michaud (2nd round) and Andrew Murphy (3rd round) will both go the Maple Ridge Burrards.
'08 Top Goaltender Matt Flindell of the Shamrocks, was the first goalie to be drafted on Tuesday night, going fourteenth overall (2nd round) to the Timbermen.
Delta's Vince Canil and Jacob Safarik both got picked in the seventh round with Canil going to Victoria, and Safarik going to Burnaby.
Three members of the South Fraser Stickmen were drafted, Graham Weidenhammer and Dave Johnson will both be going to the Adanacs, and Travis Voisey was picked by Nanaimo.
