The Langley Jr Thunder will name a new head coach next week - after the resignation of Jamie Scott following a loss to New Westminster Thursday night at the Langley events centre.
GM Brock Rose accepted the resignation about two hours after the Thunder gave up 12 unanswered goals as they lost to the Salmonbellies 13-2. Former coach, Curtis Gulliford will be on the bench Saturday as an interim coach until the new head man is named early next week.
The Thunder record this season is 1and 8 and team officials are disappointed.
In his resignation, Jamie Scott wrote that he believed the team was no longer paying attention to him. Accepting the resignation, and thanking Scott for his contributions, GM Brock Rose commented that it was time to 'get another voice in the room.'
In Thursday's puzzling performance, the Thunder opened with two goals by Richard Willmott and held a two goal lead until the 14 minute mark of the first period when they gave up a power play goal. Play continued with the teams matched evenly and the period ended with the Thunder up 2-1.
Then, the wheels fell off. In the last two periods, the Salmonbellies scored 12 times while the New Westminster defense continually stymied the Thunder offense. It was the third game of their season in which the Thunder was able to score only two goals.
The visitors outshot Langley two to one - with the final totals showing New West 40 shots, Langley 18.
The Thunder meet the Islanders in Delta Saturday, then move on to a pair of games in Nanaimo and Victoria next Friday and Saturday.
